John Earl Madden, popularly known as John Madden was an American football coach and a sportscaster by profession. He coached the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) for 10 seasons (1969–1978), leading them to a Super Bowl XI triumph (1977).

After leaving coaching, he worked as a color commentator for NFL telecasts until 2009, earning him 16 Sports Emmy Awards for his efforts. Since 1988, he has offered his name, knowledge, and color commentary to the video game series John Madden Football (later Madden NFL).

Born on 10 April 1936, John Madden’s age was 85 years at the time of his death. He was born and brought up in a middle-class Christian family from Austin, Minnesota, the United States. He was American by nationality and believed in the Christianity religion.
He completed his early education at the Catholic Parochial School, and later at the Jefferson High School in Austin, Minnesota, United States.
He later enrolled himself at the California Polytechnic State University in California, the United States from where he completed his higher studies. From the very beginning of his childhood, he was very much interested in sports, and other co-curricular activities rather than studying.
