Career
At the starting of his
career Vignesh Shivan has directed a short film with Dharan composing music for
it. He showed the short film to the producers i.e. Gemini Film Circuit and also
to his childhood friend, Silambarasan. Both agreed in collaborating to make it in
2012 as a feature film named Podaa Podi. The film work completed in four years
because of some issues, and then get released in October in the year 2012 with mixed
movie critic reviews. After that, he began working as a lyricist, also filming his
independent music videos and appearing as actor with a role of engineer in a
film named Velaiyilla Pattathari in 2014. His second film named Naanum
Rowdydhaan released in 2015, like his first film, this film also went through
some ups and downs. They had to do some changes related to cast as well as
production studios, this film gets starred by Nayantara and Vijay Sethupathi as
actors and Produced by Dhanush. The film, for which he drew inspiration from
the lives of his parents, opened to positive reviews in October 2015.

Vignesh won the SIIMA Best Director award for Naanum Rowdydhaan in 2016.

Vignesh Shivan being angry on the altercating speech of Radha Ravi against Superstar actress Nayanthara stirred a lot of controversies. It creates a big buzz in the South Indian Film Industry with a tweeter war by fans.
When the recent sneak peak of Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Remo’ got released, the director Vignesh Sivan, also the writer of two songs in it, mentioned in his speech that it was Anirudh who allowed him to write lyrics. This started a huge buzz among the social media fans of Simbu with Vignesh Sivan not mentioning Simbu who gave him his first break in the industry by doing ‘Poda Podi’. The ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ director then had to give clarification on his statement.
