The Squid Game theory has been explained to all who are quite inquisitive to know about it.

The Squid Game’s major component is the combination of childhood games with the grim realities of difficulty in making ends meet.

The participants have all fallen into deep debt for various reasons making them desperate enough to risk their lives and do despicable things in order to have a chance to redeem themselves with the prizes to be won.

The games they play are based on common playground games with dark stakes that are inescapable. The contrast between the kids’ games and the death surrounding them is what gives Squid Game such a great strain.

The brightly colored uniforms worn by Squid Game’s players and henchmen relate with the dark contrast. The green/blue of the contestants’ tracksuits and the red/pink of the guards are both so bright that it’s strange to see them participate in such a despicable game.

The series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has explained that he also wanted to create a clear visual language of the mental state and how teamwork is applicable to playground games.

Below are some of the reasons why the cast had to wear some specific dresses on set.

The Front Man:

The Front Man is the queerest personality in Squid Game, this explains why he wears black, he also controls how the game operates, the people involved, and most importantly the money.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

The Front Man runs the Organization; Squid Game on behalf of the host. Throughout the series, the Front Man appears different from the rest of the game’s workers because of his special mask and black suit, His identity is revealed as not only commanding the current game with its players and workers but also as Jun-ho’s missing brother. He took part in the game as In-ho.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

It was never explained in detail how In-ho went from winning the Squid Game to being its Front Man. A Reddit theory focuses on the Front Man’s personality more generally, and why he wears black throughout the show.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

CMY color theory (cyan, magenta, and yellow) in which the Front Man exists at the center, black. In summary, the Front Man occupies the central spot on the color wheel because he controls people (cyan), systems (magenta), and money (yellow) as said from the beginning.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

The Front Man has the power to control the participants and conditions of the Squid Game like in episode 7 when he uses a control panel to change the conditions of the bridge game to make it more difficult. He controls the cyan, magenta, and yellow components of Squid Game, the Front Man must wear black because it is the combination of all these colors.

The Guards:

Having explained why the Front Man wears black let’s now focusing on the mysterious costume design, with the guards wearing bright red/pink uniforms and the players wearing green/blue.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

Pink is often portrayed as a feminine color, but red is also a color of danger and warning. The Squid Game henchmen represent mildness and childhood, but which also stirs up feelings of fear and anxiety.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

That tension is only magnified because none of the Squid Game guards’ faces are shown making it seem they are inhumane.

Squid Game Players:

Similarly, the blue/green tracksuits worn by Squid Game’s players have a level of irony in their design. Tracksuits are casualwear, not battle armor, The teal color of the uniforms is also generally a symbol of peace, healing, or rebirth, but in the story of Squid Game, the tracksuits are practically a death sentence, with most who wear them reaching their early grave.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

We are informed that the Front Man wears black because he controls everything in the Squid Game but the theory starts to fall apart in the last two episodes of Squid Game. If black is worn by characters who have everything, why were Sae-byeok, Sang-woo, and Gi-hun given black tuxedos to wear for the last game?

[the_ad id=”5031″]

Because at that point they had nothing, most of their friends are dead, they had very little power over their fate, and none of the Squid Game’s 45.6 billion won yet. The tuxedos do include a white shirt, however, which could give a hint to these things they lack.

If Oh Il-Nam, is the game’s creator as revealed in episode 9, why does the Front Man control everything? The Front Man has nothing and has possibly killed his brother, he was not seen using the money he won from the game he was the winner in, is there another interesting reason why the Front Man wears black? Or the character may simply wear black because it helps him look intimidating?

Hwang Dong-hyuk who happens to solely write this fascinating drama revealed in an interview that writing the first season all by himself took a lot out of him. The writer-director mostly made films in a long career with Squid Game being his first drama.

”During my early days, I would drink half a bottle of soju (Korean liquor) to get the creative juices flowing. I can’t do that anymore,” he said.

[the_ad id=”5031″]

He continued; ”writing Squid Game was harder than normal for me as it was a series, not a film. It took me six months to write and rewrite the first two episodes. Then I consulted verbally with friends, and picked up clues for improvements through my own pitching and from their responses” he said.
